The travel industry’s sustainability actions

Destinations

Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) and state tourism offices are helping travelers find sustainable options and working to ensure travelers can enjoy natural attractions for generations to come.

Some DMOs now offer eco-certification programs for tourism businesses, allowing visitors to curate sustainable itineraries. New and existing programs help reduce waste, lower energy use, protect water quality and conserve water. DMOs are also addressing tourism’s impact on natural spaces. DMO-led awareness campaigns inform travelers on how to responsibly and sustainably enjoy their visits.
